We love to take mini- adventures and often jump on the Metra, Rock Island Line, at 107th street, which is just a few locks from our home to begin. Last night, at the last minute no less, we decided to jump on at 7:11pm going south. We had a leisurely ride where we all enjoyed each others company,(instead of stressing over directions and traffic), my daughter of course enjoyed every second of the ride and we landed at the Mokena-Front Street station at 7:51. We walked right across the street and had an EXCELLENT dinner at Paul E's Place at 11116 Front Street, Mokena. What a cozy, comfortable, casual, fine dining restaurant with an excellent, affordable menu. When we say "fine dining" on the South Side, usually we mean, fine food with casual attire,(my husband and daughter had shorts on and were completely comfortable). We started with delicious mussels in white wine sauce & crusty french bread, and proceeded to enjoy and share a gourmet veggie pizza, gourmet mac & cheese and crab/shrimp stuffed tilapia in a lovely lobster cream sauce with roasted vegetables and garlic mash. My husband enjoyed a red amber from a brewery in Aurora chosen from their extensive list of micro and specialty imported beers. I had a "powerful" Cuervo Margarita. They had a great wine list too! We ended with a chocolate lava cake with ice cream and fresh cream. My daughter and I were swinging sword spoons over that one! We had so much fun, the staff was so nice and we wished we could stay longer but we had to catch the 9:39pm back to Beverly! It was absolutely perfect and fun and worry free and we are going to do it all again very soon! It's going to be hard to try a different train stop after the wonderful evening at Paul E's!
