Are we too reactionary?

How many school campuses have been shut down in recent months after a "threatening" message was found scrawled on a bathroom wall or scribbled in a notebook?
Most recently, 19-year-old St. Paul native Katherine Loberg was charged with two felonies after she admitted to writing "Be prepared to die on 4/14" in a bathroom stall at Saint Xavier University.
As reported by the Chicago Tribune, Loberg struggled with depression.
Still, depression or not, are these messages - increasingly found on campuses nationwide - cause for emergency action by school and law enforcement officials?
Have we become too reactionary? Have we lost the ability to distinguish between a legitimate threat of violence and an attenion-grabber?

The school did the right...

It seems like none of the threats mounted to anything, but you can never be too sure. At Northern Illinois, there was a threat found a few months before the shooting there.
I think the schools are doing the right thing in shutting down. Even though it is a major inconvenience, it is still better to be safe than sorry.
